Setting Up Your Email Signature in Mozilla Thunderbird
Learn how to install your corporate TeamSigs email signature in Mozilla Thunderbird on Windows, macOS, or Linux.
Overview
Mozilla Thunderbird is a popular open-source desktop email client used by many businesses and technical teams. Because Thunderbird can handle both plain text and rich HTML emails, setting up your signature requires one critical setting: enabling HTML formatting so company logos, links, colors, and layout tables render properly.
Step 1: Copy Your Signature from TeamSigs
- Log in to your personal signature portal at https://teamsigs.com/my-signature.
- In the left-hand column under Copy your signature, click Copy for Thunderbird (or click Copy Raw HTML if you prefer inserting direct source markup).
- A confirmation toast will appear indicating your signature has been copied to the clipboard.
Tip: Do not highlight the signature manually in your browser with your mouse cursor. Always use the Copy for Thunderbird button to preserve HTML structure and styling rules.
Step 2: Open Account Settings in Thunderbird
- Open Mozilla Thunderbird on your desktop.
- In the left folder sidebar, locate your email account.
- Right-click on your account name and choose Settings from the context menu (alternatively, click the application menu in the top right $\rightarrow$ select Tools $\rightarrow$ Account Settings).
- In the left sidebar of the settings tab, click directly on your account name to open its main account configuration screen.
Step 3: Enable the "Use HTML" Option
In the right pane under the Default Identity section, you will see a text box titled Signature text.
- Immediately above the signature box, locate the checkbox labeled Use HTML (e.g., <b>bold</b>).
- Critical Step: Ensure the Use HTML checkbox is checked.
- If this box is left unchecked, Thunderbird will interpret your clipboard contents as unformatted plain text, stripping logos, borders, brand colors, and click-to-call phone links.
Step 4: Paste and Save Your Signature
- Click inside the Signature text editor box.
- Clear any existing signature text from the field.
- Paste your copied signature:
- Windows / Linux: Press
Ctrl + V - macOS: Press
Cmd + V
- Windows / Linux: Press
- The signature markup or formatted layout will appear inside the text box.
- Close the Account Settings tab (Thunderbird saves changes automatically).
Step 5: Verification & Best Practices
- Click Write (or press
Ctrl + N/Cmd + N) to open a new message composition window. - Verify that your signature appears automatically at the bottom of the email with all photos, logos, social links, and fonts intact.
- If you compose messages in plain text by default, ensure your composition settings allow HTML messages:
- Go to Account Settings $\rightarrow$ Composition & Addressing.
- Verify that Compose messages in HTML format is checked.
